摘要: Effects of immunocastration on boar taint compounds and spermatogenesis in boars fed varying balanced protein levels Page 1 Physical castration is used to control aggressive and sexual behavior in boars, and to prevent the development of boar taint. Boar taint is an unpleasant flavour and aroma in pork caused by the lipophilic compounds: testicular androstenone, skatole and indole. Welfare concerns resulted in the implementation of legislation that limits or prohibit physical castration. Immunocastration, the vaccination of an animal against gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), is considered as a welfare-friendly alternative to physical castration.
