Effect of NaCl salinity in new bell peppers (Capsicum anuum, L.):(2) contents and mineral distribution

摘要: Salt tolerance of nine cultivars of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), "Moar", "Castor", "Christie", "Ace", "Kyonami", "Eiko", "Capistrano", "Jupiter", and "Ancho San Luis" was studied during vegetative growth in the greenhouse. Salinity treatments were applied through irrigation with a 50% diluted Hoagland solution, containing 0, 25, 50, and 100 mM.L-1 NaCl. Salinities up to 50 mM increased the concentration of all minerals in the plant tissues, mainly Na+ and Cl- in all cultivars. The roots had higher Na+ concentration than leaves; Cl- in leaves was much higher than Na+. K+ concentration in the tissues was less affected than Na+ and Cl- by salinity increase. The results suggest that during vegetative growth, the concentration responses were different among cultivars to the responses in NaCl tolerance.
