摘要: In order to predict mortality in septic patients, several biomarkers are investigated. Along the line, a study recently presented in this journal showed serum sFASL levels are associated with the severity of sepsis and mortality [1]. We focussed on the genetic background to predict the outcome of septic patients. Interleukin 1 receptors (IL-1R) constitute a family of ten members related to the immune response [2]. IL-1 receptor type 1 (IL-1R1) is predominant on T cells, fibroblasts, epithelial and endothelial cells and initiates the inflammatory response by binding its agonist ligands (IL-1a and IL-1b), while the IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RA) inhibits the pro-inflammatory response [2].
