Study of the M/sub 23/C/sub 6/precipitation at 550/sup 0/C and 700/sup 0/C in AISI 304 stainless steel by small angle neutron scattering

摘要: An investigation of the M/sub 23/C/sub 6/ carbide (M=metal atom) precipitation induced by ageing at 550/sup 0/C and 700/sup 0/C in AISI 304 stainless steel was performed using Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Coherent scattering cross section curves were obtained for the differently aged samples from which the total surface and total volumes of precipitates per unit volume of sample were determined. The size distribution function of M/sub 23/C/sub 6/ carbide was obtained for each ageing time. The SANS results are in satisfactory agreement with the localized TEM observations.
