Mediterranean sun: Solar energy in Israel

摘要: 'The Greenpeace Report for Solar Energy in Israel' highlights the net benefits to Israel of large-scale installation of solar energy in the country, which is in a good position to take advantage of this renewable energy source with its good solar resources and a sound technology base. The three main benefits of developing the solar industry in Israel are improved energy security, reduced pollution and economic growth. The report stresses the need to include environmental costs when considering the economics of solar energy and provides examples of the economics benefits to Israel. The net long-term benefits at a net present value (NPV) of 7% are summarised in one table, while another table shows predicted environmental and employment benefits of solar deployment up to 2025. Israel has chosen to concentrate on the development of solar thermal electricity and the key factors to ensuring the growth of solar technology in Israel are noted.
