摘要: It is a pleasure to write this introduction to a volume to honor my longtime friend, colleague, coeditor, and mentor, Sam Peltzman. This volume was origi-nally going to be based on a conference, but unfortunately the conference had to be canceled because of the coronavirus. Cliff Winston and I, the editors of this issue, thank all those who had agreed to honor Sam by either presenting a paper, giving a keynote address, or being a discussant. We discuss some of his key works below, but I wanted to start off by thanking Sam for his longtime service of more than 30 years to the Journal of Law and Economics.I met Sam when I joined the University of Chicago in 1976. I must admit that I initially was unsure what to make of him.
