摘要: Methods: We created three programs to engage anesthesia and surgery trainees with interests in global health, following a structured review of existing opportunities in North America. The Health Equity Action and Leadership (HEAL) Fellowship provides clinical service at underserved domestic and international locations, with opportunities for LMIC Fellows to pursue global health training and observerships in the US. The UCSF Anesthesia Global Health Equity Fellowship provides opportunities for global health research and education for postgraduate HIC providers. In partnership with the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), we established a Simulation Fellowship in San Francisco to provide LIC postgraduates with exposure to simulation and medical education methodology.Results: The Simulation and Global health equity fellowships each enrolled their first fellow in 2017. The HEAL fellowship enrolled its initial surgical fellows (OB/GYN and General Surgery) who provide clinical service and quality improvement initiatives in Mexico, India, and Malawi. The Simulation Fellow, from Uganda, created context appropriate simulation materials and a simulation instructors course intended for East African educators. The Global Health Equity Fellow is actively engaged in academic research and resident education. Recruitment of anesthesia and surgery fellows for the HEAL Fellowship has been significantly more challenging than recruiting in other medical disciplines.Discussion: By providing several avenues for engagement, we have captured the interest of multiple trainees who now collaborate across low-and high-income …
