摘要: Land cover composition and its change are the consequential parameters that have a direct influence on urban ecological systems and conditions. Karachi has been through astringent urbanization during last two decades and many studies have been performed for its Land use and Land cover (LULC) analysis, majority off which utilized Landsat data.In this paper, we analyze the adequacy of both LANDSAT and MODIS imageries for land use and land cover changes in Karachi. So, the main objective of this research work is to present and compare two different approaches for mapping and precise resoluteness of land utilization in Karachi. We used daily surface reflectance MODIS data and ancillary data in mapping LULC changes employing a decision tree classifier approach. We compared MODIS and LANDSAT-derived land cover data for accuracy assessment. A three step approach has been used for comparison analysis of classified data: the qualitative assessment of the classified data availed in identifying and rectifying gross errors, then correlation analysis of MODIS and LANDSAT-derived land cover data has been performed and conclusively we generated error matrix utilizing unseen training data. Softwares ArcGIS v10. 1, ERDAS IMAGINE® and ERDAS ER Mapper have been used for remote sensing analysis of satellite imageries in this study.
