摘要: The textile industry is responsible for the discharge of effluents with high concentration of dyes. One of the methods most commonly used to treat these effluents is adsorption. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a microorganism with full scale production in Brazil. Therefore the present study aimed to compare adsorption of living cells of S. cerevisiae with dead cells. For this we used the dye Acid Blue 161. It applied the mathematical models of kinetic, thermodynamics and isotherm to analyse the results obtained in the adsorption studies. Isotherms indicated that the dead cells comply with the Langmuir model, showing a favourable adsorption. Living cells respected the Freundlich model, but values indicated an unfavourable adsorption. Thermodynamic showed that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic for live and dead cells. This way it is possible to conclude that adsorption is more efficient in dead cells, proving trough of mathematical models its highest adsorptive capacity.
