摘要: RESULTS: Forty four (6.5%) of the patient with primary spontaneous pneumothorax were women. The average age was 29.2. In our study, there were 7 (15.91%) catamenial pnuemothorax cases and these 7 cases had recurrent pneumothorax for 19 times. The recurrence rate of pneumothorax after the operation is very low but in our series, 4 (18.18%) of 22 patients who underwent surgery had recurrence and 3 (75%) of these recurrences were catamenial pneumothorax. PSP was present on the right side in 22 (50%), cases on the left side in 19 (43.1%) cases and bilateral in 3 (6.8%) cases. All cases were symptomatic; both shortness of breath and chest pain were observed in 14 (31.8%) cases only shortness of breath in 7 (15.9%) cases and only chest pain in 23 (52.2%) cases.DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is very rare in women. Although rare, we believe more recurrence ocur, especially those with catamenial primary spontaneous pneumothorax. In female primary spontaneous pneumothorax cases, menstrual cycles should be questioned and catemenial pneumothorax should always be kept in mind.
