Relationship between sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) and empathic reaction for pain from psychophysiological perspective

摘要: Methods. The study was carried out on 31 people (16 HSP, 15 nonHSP) using ERP technique. When viewing pictures of pain and no pain participants imagined what others might feel. The study used a database of visual stimuli, which consisted of 14 color photographs. 7 photos showed hands in pain situations, 7 in neutral situations.Results. At the level of early processing of the stimulus (N1) and late processing associated with conscious perception (P3), there were no differences in the pain response of others between the HSP and nonHSP groups. These differences were seen in the amplitude of the mid-latency (P2, N2) waves. At this stage, an empathic response to the pain of others was seen in the N2 wave of the nonHSP group, but not in the HSP group.
