摘要: An analytical model is developed for linear Jahn-Teller (JT) systems in which the lowestenergy potential sheet forms a trough. Initially, the static problem is solved in a general form that is applicable to (linear) JT systems of any symmetry. The dynamic problem for the icosahedral T h JT problem is then solved approximately by combining states from appropriate epikernals. A new theory of continuous projection operators is then developed which allows these problems to be solved more accurately. The model is first tested for the single-mode E✪ e JT problem in cubic symmetry, for which results are already well-known. An indication is then given of how results can be obtained for T® h, which is applicable to the ground state of the fullerene molecule C60.
