摘要: Policy and Practice in Rural Tanzania is a timely contribution that goes beyond the normative of using classification indices to locate wealth distribution. In this book rural wealth and its distribution are understood from their local contexts by examining the forces that shape their course of operations. It takes an anthropological approach to examine how rural people understand and appropriate available opportunities to make their livelihood meaningful and sustaining despite dynamics in government interventions and changing global marketing systems. The author shows that activities such as grazing, fishing, and farming are at the center of rural economies and are more meaningful when used to understand poverty and wealth distribution than using general statistical metrics of national GDP, policies, and expert surveys.
