摘要: Working on health issues with communities is one of the most rewarding and challenging roles of public health practice. In schools of public health, nursing, social work, and allied health sciences, students are taught the importance of working" with" rather than" on" communities and are encouraged to work for the" empowerment" of communities, groups, and individuals. In this chapter, I will briefly review some of the models and theories of working in community and then, using my experience with a community-based border health project, discuss some of the challenges of working in community, especially on the US-Mexico border.
