Beech nuts (Fagus silvmt'ca) accounted for the highest percentage in the annual food volume (l 1.8% vol). The most frequently observed spring foods were grasses. herbaceous plants and deer. Also in summer herbaceous plants along with blueberries were a significant element of bear diet. Apples and pears from abandoned wild orchards and beech nuts were the major food sources in autumn.
