摘要: The second otter action plan requires adoption of different conservation strategies in different parts of Asia. The otters are threatened in the Asian region mainly by the habitat destruction, poaching for fur and organs, and environmental pollution. With the high growth rate of human population, otter habitats are disappearing very fast and as a result the otters have become almost extinct in some countries. In Asia, the otter is an insignificant mammal, which receives little attention from the general public. Therefore, it will be more effective to incorporate otter awareness programmes into the broader and more popular wetland conservation programmes. The major expectations of the second edition of the otter action plan for Asia, therefore, are: extensive otter surveys in all the countries in the region, otter awareness programmes (through media, workshops, meetings, etc.) and providing legal protection for otters in …
