Adaptive Translation of International News from English to Chinese: An Exploration of Methods

摘要: There has been considerable research interest in adaptive translation of non-literary texts in recent years. However, little has been done on adaptive translation of international news from English to Chinese. This article therefore intends to make an initial research effort on this topic. Following an explication of the major reasons why adaptive translation should be employed in translating international news from English to Chinese, the author proposes five methods of restructuring the translated text, namely, restructuring of sentences, reordering of the story, merging of paragraphs, adjustment of direct speech, and deletion of content.
