The role of teamwork in achieving good patient outcomes for children with type 1 diabetes

摘要: Intensive insulin therapy requires significant understanding and effort from children with diabetes and their families. A multidisciplinary approach is needed to address all aspects of management and an effective team must have experienced professionals, defined treatment targets, coordinated management plans, and clear communication and consensus between all members. Having a coordinated management plan means that every team member, including the patient and their family, needs to understand the process in order to achieve targets such as normalising blood glucose levels. This article argues that a team that is committed to defined targets and coordinated management plans will be better equipped to help families achieve good glycaemic control and avoid complications.
