Opioid-induced constipation negatively impacts pain management, productivity, and health-related quality of life: findings from the National Health and Wellness Survey.

摘要: Objective: To characterize the impact of opioidinduced constipation (OIC) on healthcare resource use, work productivity, and health-related quality life (HRQOL) in patients receiving chronic opioid therapy. Design: Data were collected via Internet questionnaires during international National Health Wellness Survey (NHWS) 2004 from individuals aged ≥18 years who reported taking opioids for ≥6 months. Healthcare utilization, Work Productivity, Activity Impairment, Short-Form 8 (SF-8) questionnaire responses compared between those did or not report OIC. Results: available 2,430 opioids, whom 359 Participants with OIC significantly more physician visits (mean difference 3.84 visits; p < 0.05) alternative care provider 1.73 over previous 6 months than without OIC; however, no significant differences emergency room number days hospitalization observed. Respondents also greater time missed work, impairment while working, overall impairment, activity (p 0.05 all comparisons).
