摘要: The central nervous system, by a variety of mechanisms engages in constant surveillance the peripheral immune system. Alterations status system induced an invading pathogen for example, are quickly detected which then responds altering physiological processes and behavior attempt to support its efforts eliminate pathogen. Sleep is one several behaviors that dramatically altered response infection. Immune-active substances such as pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 tumor necrosis factor, either directly or indirectly via interactions with neurotransmitters neurohormones involved regulation sleep. Because these increase during infection, they likely candidates mediating profound alterations sleep occur Since function infection-induced provide unique model study neuro-immune interactions.
