Scottish higher education and the Scottish parliament: the consequences of mistaken national identity

摘要: The creation of a Scottish parliament in 1999 will crystallize cultural crisis for higher education. universities retained their autonomy after the 18th-century union between Scotland and England because was about high politics rather than affairs civil society culture. Unlike England, developed close relationship with agencies state during 19th century, these also built up system non-university education colleges. In 20th (and later some colleges) sought to detach themselves from culture politics, favouring instead common British academic network. So new constitutional settlement faces institutions an enforced allegiance nation that sharply disrupt 80-year interlude as outposts polity.
