摘要: Policy-makers in most countries now recognise the need to conserve biodiversity, forest productivity and prosperity of dependent communities long-term. There is wide recognition importance forested watersheds hydrological regimes water quality significant cultural, social aesthetic values forests. Policies are directed at achieving sustainable management (SFM). Criteria indicators (C&I) define SFM but obtaining agreement on what has proven be a difficult task internationally nationally. International activities including work Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO), European Union (EU) Montreal Process (MP) for temperate boreal forests outside Europe, have, over past decade refined C&I point that there substantial between them. This paper reviews progress towards defining shows through synthesis ITTO, EU MP emergent consistency SFM. The implication sufficiently specific agreed principles, guide policy-makers While much remains done operationalise C&I, gap these criteria current practice so can made within frameworks while refinement continues.
