摘要: The Indo-Pacific marine atherinid fishes Atherinomorus forskalii (Ruppell, 1838), lacunosus (Forster, 1801), and pinguis (Lacepede, 1803) are redescribed as valid species based on the types non-type specimens collected throughout Indo-Pacific. They similar to each other chiefly in having a wide midlateral band (almost same or greater than scale width), large mouth (posterior tip of upper jaw reaching beyond vertical through anterior margin pupil), no distinct tubercle at posterior end dentary. All three distinguishable from congeners by those characters. have long been confused with synonymized erroneously single species. forskalii, known Red Sea eastern Mediterranean, differs conspicuous, endopterygoid teeth, forming obvious tooth ridges. lacunosus, widely distributed almost entire Indo-Pacific, East Africa Tonga, north southern Japan, south northern Australia, wider (the lower center fourth row level anal fin origin vs. ventral third pinguis) more numerous scales (40–44 38–41 pinguis). Atherina morrisi Jordan Starks, 1906, Hepsetia mineri Nichols Roemhild, 1951, Pranesus capricornensis Woodland, 1961, maculatus Taylor, 1964, ruppelli Smith, 1965, regarded junior synonyms lacunosus. is also Indo-West Pacific, Australia Japan. pectoralis Valenciennes, 1835, considered synonym pinguis.
