摘要: The aim of the paper is to analyse sea level variability at Lithuanian coast during last 100 years using all data available in Lithuania. analysis, based on Klaipeda Strait for 1898-2002, clearly shows that long-term increased by about 13.9 cm. Furthermore, it remarkable increase not found be linear study period. Only a negligible every tide gauge until World War II. Starting from middle century more pronounced having rate 3 mm per year since 1970s. This rise leads manifold practical problems concerning activities coastal areas. water will intensify intrusion salty into Curonian Lagoon slowly changing ecosystems its northern part. reasons behind this are related enhanced and frequent advection warm moist maritime air masses cold season (October-March). coupled with intensified flow west increasing temperatures followed thermal expansion water, global also playing an important role. annual mean fluctuation linked winter North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) index. When NAO index positive winter, dominating westerly across advects relatively over Europe. These strong winds cause flooding events southeastern part Baltic Sea coast.
