The pursuit of cycling equity: A review of Canadian transport plans

摘要: Abstract Cycling is increasingly prioritized as a mode of transport with multiple socio-economic, environmental, and health benefits. However, the benefits associated cycling are not always equitably distributed throughout society, meaning that some people (e.g. low incomes, immigrants colour, women, seniors) may have access to safe convenient spaces in which cycle, infrastructure inadequately accommodating varying needs all members society. Based on review academic literature, well critical city-level plans Canada, we evaluate if how Canada addressing equity, ways planning practice can more effectively provide for it. Findings from Canadian revealed four key themes related can, do currently address including (1) socio-spatial network analysis (2) consideration equity projects priorities, (3) equity-oriented funding mechanisms, (4) inclusive design safety. While were found addressed many did not, or so limited ineffective way. As per findings opportunities exist advance pursuit example, utilization appropriate effective methods analysis, locally tailored engagement decision-making processes concerns local residents, particularly those who most disadvantaged.
