Injury prevalence of netball players in South Africa: The need for in jury prevention

摘要: This study aimed to establish baseline data for injury prevalence,mechanism of injury, severity and management injuries in netball playersin South Africa. A cross sectional descriptive design was employed collect databy means a questionnaire 2010. Participants consisted 254 playerswho participated tournament. Permission obtained from all therelevant organizations informed consent the participants. Thegeneral rate 61.8% with an 1.9 per player forthe past season. The most commonly injured structures were ankle 37.5 % andthe knee 28.6% common mechanism being landing, 19% 29% respectively. Of those whosustained injuries, 86 (44%) athletes’ sustained severe 31(16%) moderate injuriesand 78 (40%) mild injuries. 67% players reported they able continue game 33%received medical assistance losing training time. form accessed wasphysiotherapy, which accounted 31%. It is evident that rates amongst Africannetball are high comparison other playing nations. Injury surveillance integral part ofdeveloping preventative measures. article lays platform developing these strategies against backdrop ofits findings authors.
