Practice Recommendations for Mental Health Professionals: Perspectives from Grandparents and their Adolescent Grandchildren

摘要: Although grandfamilies are consumers of a variety mental health services, less is known about what these families, particularly the grandchildren, want from practitioners. To gain insight into how practitioners can best meet needs grandfamilies, 40 custodial grandmothers and their adolescent grandchildren were interviewed. Results qualitative analysis indicated that did not make clear distinctions between various types services service providers. Grandchildren emphasized need for professionals to facilitate mentoring provide opportunities socialize with other who have been through similar circumstances. Grandmothers both recommended promoting problem solving, offering being responsive families’ unique needs. Participants also suggested avoid making judgments, educate themselves advocate attend experiences grandchildren. Implications findings
