摘要: Radar has been successfully used for over twenty years to study the flight behaviour of a variety migrant insects. However, complexity equipment and time-consuming nature data analysis procedures have precluded use technique routine, long-term monitoring. We report here development specifically intended make such routine monitoring practical proposition. The 3 cm radar transmits vertical-looking beam which nutates about vertical axis, in plane linear polarization is rotated. Overflying insects modulate signal way related their speed direction movement, orientation, size, shape. shown that all these parameters can be extracted from complex Fourier transform returned signal, by using appropriate algorithms on modern desk-top computer. success this means economic, automatic, density, orientation composition insect aerial faunas should now possible.
