Assessing research impact: Australian Research Council criteria and the case of Family Wellbeing research

摘要: Researchers worldwide are increasingly reporting the societal impact of their research as part national productivity assessments. However, challenges they encounter in developing case studies against specified government assessment criteria and how pitfalls can be mitigated not reported. This paper examines key steps taken to develop an Aboriginal Family Wellbeing (FWB) empowerment study context Australian Research Council (ARC) pilot exercise involved applying ARC criteria. The requirement that researchers demonstrate institutions support them conduct impactful has potential create supportive environments for more responsive needs users outside academia. 15-year reference period associated underpinning reported focus on researcher's current institutional affiliation constitute constraints demonstrating true research. For working with Indigenous people, relationships build over long periods time, irrespective university affiliation, critical conducting A open-ended time-frame, no restrictions 'associated research' provides best opportunity benefits only people but society broadly.
