摘要: Objective To evaluate the impact of National Breast Cancer Foundation's (NBCF's) research investment. Design and participants Surveys based on Payback Framework were sent to chief investigators involved in funded by NBCF during 1995-2012; a bibliometric analysis NBCF-funded publications 2006-2010 was conducted; purposive, stratified sample case studies obtained. Main outcome measures Research knowledge production, system, informing policy, product development broader health economic benefits. Results Of 242 surveys sent, 153 (63%) returned. The average journals which appeared double that world publications. Seventy (46%) reported career progression, 185 higher degrees obtained or expected, including 121 PhDs. One hundred one grants (66%) produced tools built capacity across teams leveraged an additional $1.40 funding for every dollar invested. Fifteen applied basic grant impacted policy. Ten four led drugs, prognostic diagnostic technologies. Twenty two changes practice behaviour care staff, consumers public, with further impacts anticipated. Case provided illustrations high impact. Conclusions NBCF's strategy investing mixed portfolio areas mechanisms encouraged broad range all categories. from tended focus production drug development; while generated greater within other shared infrastructure stimulated system.
