摘要: A facile solvent-less approach to toughen epoxy thermosets by means of a bio-based resin, that is, poly(furfuryl alcohol) (PFA; furan resin) is reported. The bio-resin PFA was firstly synthesized through polycondensation reaction furfuryl alcohol as bio-monomer and maleic anhydride catalyst. Different amounts were blended with diglycidyl ether bisphenol resin cured diethylenetriamine hardener, which simultaneously cross-linked both the resins. curing process studied Furrier transform infrared spectroscopy differential scanning calorimetry. Scanning electron microscopy chemically blends revealed no phase separation. It found remarkable increase in flexural modulus strength neat modified epoxies increasing content up around 15%.
