摘要: We describe an ongoing collaborative curriculum materials development project between Sweet Briar College and Western Michigan University, with support from the National Science Foundation. present a collection of modules under that can be used in existing mathematics biology courses, we address critical national need to introduce students mathematical methods beyond interface calculus. Based on research, designed use project-based-learning approach, highlight applications modern discrete algebraic statistics pressing problems molecular biology. For majority projects, calculus is not required prerequisite and, due modest amount background needed for some modules, early introduction modeling. At same time, most are connected topics linear abstract algebra, geometry, probability, they as meaningful applied introductions into relevant advanced-level courses. Open-source software facilitate computations. As detailed example, outline module focuses Boolean models lac operon network.
