摘要: Abstract As many freshwaters are chemically polluted, one of the challenges for policy makers is to determine potential impact these pollutants on ecosystems and define safe concentrations. Common practice use ecotoxicological assays assess response model organisms from different trophic levels such as algae, invertebrates fish during exposure dilutions a specific compound. Ideally, assessments (pseudo-)persistent chemicals should be performed across life-cycle or even multiple generations an accurate risk assessment. Multigenerational tests with are, however, impractical costly given long lifespan generation time classic species. Here, we suggest framework more relevant, time- cost-efficient fish-based testing in ecotoxicology align it accredited test guidelines. Next, introduce upcoming model, turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri, show how facilitates research agendas due short time. Through review studies set reference toxicants, position N. furzeri sensitive species, suitable screening effects pollutant types. Ultimately, perform cost-benefit analysis propose plan action introduction into
