Risk perception, worry, and test acceptance in average-risk women who undergo ovarian cancer screening

摘要: Objective We evaluated baseline knowledge of ovarian cancer risk and perceptions toward screening (OCS) by initiating the normal study. Study Design Average-risk, postmenopausal women were enrolled between 2001 2011 as they entered Participants completed surveys perception, worry (Cancer Worry Scale), anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory), health well-being survey (SF-36 HEALTH SURVEY), acceptability OCS. Results Of 1242 who enrolled, 925 (74.5%) surveys. The respondents estimated a mean lifetime 29.9%, which is much higher than actual 1.4% for in United States. Only 2.8% participants correctly their risk; 35.4% reported to be ≥50%. Cancer was low, with median Scale score 7 24. comparable published norms this age group, STAI-State STAI-Trait scores 30 29 80, respectively. Overall, good physical mental well-being. In terms OCS acceptability, 97.2% agreed or strongly that "the benefits outweigh difficulties." Very few reluctant undergo because time constraints (1.1%), pain (2.0%), embarrassment (1.9%). Conclusion Average-risk underwent highly overestimated cancer. Despite this, low anxiety. discrepancy attitudes highlights need educational efforts area.
