摘要: Object Cystic epithelial masses of the sellar and parasellar region may be difficult to differentiate on a clinical, imaging, or even histopathological basis. The authors review developmental relationships differentiating features various lesions region. Methods performed literature identify previous studies describing etiological cystic lesions, including craniopharyngioma (CP), Rathke cleft cyst, xanthogranuloma, dermoid epidermoid cysts. Results There is significant evidence in support common ectodermal origin selected suprasellar which account for overlap transitional states observed some cases. Research obtained from animal reports crossing over typical more aggressive pathological subtypes have collectively provided solid foundation this theory. Histological that signify entities beyond simple benign cysts include squamous metaplasia, stratified epithelium, ciliated mucinous goblet cells squamous-papillary CPs. Several identified key can used differentiation these lesions. Conclusions pattern embryological formation hypothalamic-pituitary axis plays major role its propensity developing Subsequent inflammatory, metaplastic, neoplastic processes promote further progression along continuum, ranging Selected help assign formal diagnosis, thus accurately guiding treatment.
