摘要: TheAustralandNeotropicalAmerica(ANA)sectionoftheSocietyforConservationBiologyincludes a vast territory with some of the largest relatively pristine ecosystems in world. With more than 573 million people, economic growth region still depends strongly on natural resource exploitation and has high rates environmental degradation biodiversity loss. A survey among ANA section membership, 700 members, including most section's prominent ecologists conservationists, indicates that lack capacity building for conservation, corruption, threats such as deforestation illegal trade species, are urgent problems need to be addressed improve conservation region. There are, however, strong universities ecology groups taking lead research important issue enhance ability solve development conflicts.
