摘要: BIOLOGY George D. Williamson B.S., Morehouse College, 1980 HEXANINECOBALT(III) CHLORIDE AND RUTHENIUM RED INHIBITED CALCIUM UPTAKE IN NERVOUS TISSUE Advisor: Dr. Cyril L. Moore Thesis dated: July, 1991 The effects of ruthenium red and hexaminecobalt (III) chloride on Ca2+ transport mitochondrial respiration were studied. Low levels (3-6 nmoles/ng protein) completely inhibited the stimulation by Ca2~ but had no effect State 3 respiration. Ruthenium also respiration-dependent ATP-supported uptake as well metabolism-independent highand low-affinity binding Ca2~; although, neither an release accumulated Ca2+. Concentrations higher than (7 nmoles/mg prevent transport; markedly inhibit/alter (state 4) respirations, however, did not ADP.
