What are Parent-School Organisations for? Some views from an inner-London LEA

摘要: A telephone survey of the schools an inner - London LEA was conducted to discover what organisations for parents (parent teacher associations, parents' friends' organisations) existed in its schools, how often they met, and effective were thought be. The found that about half had some kind parental organisation (PO). POs seen as desirable; their main functions fund raising social events; larger, more formally organised ones seemed active involving parents. Respondents' additional comments concerned pros cons different kinds PO, purposes functions, problems. These raised basic questions: rationale POs, teachers' attitudes towards parents, nature POs' relationship with schools. It is suggested a formal statutory between would increase number facilitate educationally productive parent partnership.
