摘要: The planar anisotropy and rotational hysteresis of thin films gadolinium have been studied using torque measurements. Films ranging from 300 to 700 A were prepared by evaporation at normal incidence onto heated quartz glass substrates overcoated with SiO. Electron‐ x‐ray diffraction patterns show a finite fraction crystallites canted preferred orientation the c axis, which probably accounts for uniaxial observed. found dominant sin 2θ‐torque behavior fields above 3 kOe θ‐dependence below Oe. constants measured these are 104−105 erg/cc. unidirectional hysteresis. Peak loss occurs field strengths between 0.5 1 kOe, losses remain significant up 10 kOe. magnetic model based on magnetization ripple structure is proposed explain observed data.
