Development and validation of diabetes empowerment questionnaire in Iranian people with type 2 diabetes

摘要: Background Diabetes self-management education programmes which have been reported to improve the self-efficacy of diabetic people can lead their empowerment. Specialized diabetes nurses also play a fundamental role in empowering patients with through improving knowledge and self-care. Aim The purpose this study was develop valid reliable questionnaire measure empowerment Iranian type 2 diabetes. Methods Important subscales patient were identified by an expert panel. The included active self-care, coping personal social concerns, basic related management patient-physician communication. Questions each subscale generated panel renewed ensure relevance clarity items. Patient focus groups conducted establish face validity questionnaire. final consisted 15 items organized three subscales. In population-based study, sample 378 recruited. Reliability coefficient (Cronbach's α) calculated for all subscales. Convergent assessed Pearson's product moment correlation. scree test used select significant subscales. Findings Two hundred forty-seven female 131 male subjects filled out Three derived from factor analysis considering item-component loading 0.4 as significant: ‘active self-care’ α: 0.78), ‘basic management’ 0.72) ‘coping concerns’ 0.51). The plot eigenvalues proposed solutions. Internal consistency reliabilities acceptable (α: 0.51–0.78). Conclusions The Diabetes Empowerment Questionnaire is tool assess diabetes.
