Parents’ Dental Knowledge and Oral Hygiene Habits in Saudi Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

摘要: Background: In Saudi Arabia, too few studies are published regarding the dental health habits of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Aim: The aim this study was to evaluate their parents’ knowledge; and oral hygiene practices a group autistic children. Subjects Methods: This is cross-sectional targeting parents enrolled in three different rehabilitation centers Riyadh. A total 450 selfadministered questionnaires formulated simple Arabic were distributed diagnosed autism or any form ASD. consisted demographic questions dental-related questions, such as sources knowledge, causes problems, opinion about proper time first visits. Results: majority participating didn’t receive knowledge from personnel. More than 60% reported that unable brush teeth by themselves. addition, results showed 90% used toothbrushes pastes, only 34% them brushed once per day, Furthermore, more half mothers they helped during tooth brushing. did not have timing children‘s visit. Conclusions: Based on results, it can be concluded there lack within study. Dental professionals should increase efforts educate patients knowledge.
