The role of adsorbed gases in metal on metal epitaxy

摘要: It is found that a variety of (deliberately) adsorbed gases influence in some manner the epitaxial growth metals on metals. The investigated included molecularly CO and H2O dissociatively H, O, N, C, S. effects have been metal‐on‐metal systems including Cu/Cu(100), Ni/Ni(100), Cu/Ni(100), Ni/Cu(100), Fe/Cu(100), Cu/Fe(100), Fe/Ag(100), Fe/Fe(100). Although not all possible gas–metal combinations among these studied, enough to make following generalizations. Around room temperature above, exhibit strong tendency ‘‘float out’’ growing surface, hardly reducing extent ordering.
