摘要: Ongoing elimination efforts have altered the global distribution of Onchocerca volvulus, agent river blindness, and further population restructuring is expected as continue. Therefore, a better understanding genetic processes their effect on biogeography needed to support goals. We describe O. volvulus genome variation in 27 isolates from early 1990s (before widespread mass treatment) four distinct locales: Ecuador, Uganda, West African forest savanna. observed substructuring between Ecuador Africa savanna bioclimes, with evidence unidirectional gene flow strains. identified forest:savanna-discriminatory genomic regions report set ancestry informative loci that can be used differentiate forest, admixed isolates, which has not previously been possible. mito-nuclear discordance possibly stemming incomplete lineage sorting. The catalogue nuclear, mitochondrial endosymbiont DNA variants generated this study will future basic translational onchocerciasis research, particular relevance for ongoing control programmes, boost characterize drug, vaccine diagnostic targets.
