摘要: The diffuse and infiltrative nature of high grade gliomas, such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), makes complete surgical resection virtually impossible. propensity glioma cells to migrate along white matter tracts suggests that a cure is possible only if these migratory can be eradicated. Approximately 80% GBMs recur within 2 cm the margin, suggesting reasonable approach for improving prognosis GBM patients would development improved local therapies capable eradicating in brain-adjacent-to-tumor (BAT). An additional complicating factor successful presence blood–brain barrier (BBB) which highly variable throughout BAT—it intact some regions, while leaky others. This variance BBB patency has significant implications delivery therapeutic agents. results number studies have shown experimental light-based modalities photochemical internalization (PCI) photothermal therapy (PTT) may useful treatment gliomas. chapter summarizes recent findings illustrating potential of: (1) PCI macromolecules chemotherapeutic agents tumor suppressor genes, (2) nanoshell-mediated PTT, including nanoparticle approaches via macrophages.
