摘要: Our knowledge about the risk of hypoglycaemia associated with diabetes treatment is derived from studies that often exclude elderly people. Aim this study was to determine incidence and factors for developing severe among persons aged 80 yr or older, Type 2 mellitus (T2DM). During a 2-yr period, all episodes occurred in T2DM patients older were identified. Hypoglycaemia defined as symptomatic event requiring i.v. glucose confirmed by blood determination less than 50 mg/dl. A detailed history laboratory profile obtained each patient. period survey total 124 diabetic subjects hospitalised reported 31 (25%). This group had marked comorbidity found have HbA1c values 5.1% indicating their well controlled. Of these hypoglycaemic episodes, 23 (74%) taking glibenclamide. Diabetes therapy prescribed general practitioners 24 patients. Seventeen concomitantly received drugs potentiated hypoglycaemia. Only 10 performed regular self-monitoring. In conclusion, serious not uncommon problem T2DM; it more frequent undergoing aggressive management users long-acting sulphonylurea (eg, glibenclamide). normal level age appears be powerful indicator should alert clinicians change therapy. Finally, patient's considered individualised accordingly; our opinion, great number may prevented teaching principles monitoring involving outpatient elderly.
