摘要: Skeletal muscle has been recognized as an endocrine organ, and cell cultures express several cytokines with potential hormonal effects. Interleukin-8 (IL-8), a chemokine, which induces angiogenesis, is expressed in working muscles; however, the source of origin not identified. We aimed to elucidate if IL-8 protein is: (1) contracting fibres (2) whether there release from exercising muscle. Seventeen healthy male volunteers were included two independent protocols: 3 h ergometer bicycle exercise at 60% VO2,max (n = 6) or rest 5), two-legged knee-extensor maximal workload 6). Repetitive biopsy samples obtained vastus lateralis all experiments. A marked increase mRNA was found after exercise. expression demonstrated within cytoplasm recovery phase following exercise, peak occurred 3-6 postexercise. small transient net 1.5 However, did result systemic plasma concentration IL-8, suggesting that muscle-derived may play local role, e.g. angiogenesis.
