REORGANISING SOCIAL WELFARE AMONG MUSLIMS: ISLAMIC VOLUNTARISM AND OTHER FORMS OF COMMUNAL SUPPORT IN NORTHERN GHANA

摘要: During the second half of twentieth century contribution Muslim NGOs in providing basic social welfare became a significant feature Ghana. However, none are able to finance their projects themselves but rely on foreign financial assistance. On other hand, Ghanaian scholars have argued for need develop zakdt, locally collected obligatory alms, into fully-fledged system. At moment, this is not case. there exists local tradition mutual support and tributary relations Ghana, which at least by some Muslims identified as being efficient welfare.
