摘要: Abstract Defensin NP-1, derived from the neutrophils of rabbits, was tested for its fungistatic and fungicidal activity against strains Cryptococcus neoformans. The MICs encapsulated ranged 3.75 to 15.0 micrograms NP-1 per ml. minimum concentrations these were similar MICs. An acapsular strain, however, had a lower MIC 0.93 concentration 1.88 micrograms/ml. demonstrated time-dependent concentration-dependent killing C. Killing occurred rapidly in first 20 min exposure maximum at 90 120 min. neoformans by dependent with 31% +/- 9% survival 25 micrograms/ml, 13% 4% 50 5% 75 3% 100 NP-1's effect on also inoculum dependent, increased observed 10(4) versus 10(5) or 10(6) cells In addition, stationary-phase less susceptible than yeast logarithmic phase. Subinhibitory both (0.25 x MIC) fluconazole acted synergistically inhibiting growth Similar combinations amphotericin B, did not yield synergy.
