摘要: Abstract We have cloned and analyzed the Caenorhabditis elegans regulatory myosin light-chain genes. C. contains two such genes, which we designated mlc-1 mlc-2. The genes are separated by 2.6 kilobases divergently transcribed. We determined complete nucleotide sequences of both A single, conservative amino acid substitution distinguishes proteins. proteins strongly homologous to light chains Drosophila melanogaster vertebrates weakly a superfamily eucaryotic calcium-binding Both mlc-2 encode abundant mRNAs. mapped 5' termini these transcripts using primer extension sequencing mRNA templates. mRNAs initiate within conserved hexanucleotides at different positions, located -28 -38 relative start translation. terminus is not encoded in 4.8-kilobase genomic region upstream Rather, its end short, untranslated leader sequence that identical trans-spliced three actin
