Energy drink and ginseng consumption by Italian university students: a cross-sectional study.

摘要: Introduction. The consumption of energy drinks (ED) and ginseng by young people to enhance their mental physical performance has become widespread. Reported side-effects ED have raised doubts regarding safety. This cross-sectional study investigates the phenomenon. Methods. An anonymous questionnaire was administered a representative sample Italian university students. resulting data were analyzed with Excel 2013, STATA 13 GraphPad INSTAT software. Results. reported 38.6% 37.4% students, respectively. More than 70% users 18 22 years old. Excluding non-responders, consumers mostly males (51.8% vs. 33.0%), contrary (females 40.4% 30.9%). most frequently academic other reasons for use were: “to longer” (47.5%), socialize” (29.1%). often used combinations containing alcohol (65.6%) ginseng-coffee beverages (71.8%). Conclusions. diffusion warrants prevention monitoring measures, deserves further analysis.
